Joe Cornish Versus the Aliens

In issue #7 of CLiNT, writer/director and comedian Joe Cornish (The Adam and Joe Show) tells us about his new hoodies vs. aliens movie, Attack The Block. CLiNT also managed to sneak in a few questions about Ant-Man and Tintin, both projects that Cornish is involved in.
Here's a sneak preview the interview from issue #7:
Attack The Block is your first movie, as writer and director. Weren't you tempted to try your hand at just one of those first?
Yeah, that was a bit stupid, wasn't it? And with newcomers, and with creatures, and with effects, and all at night! It was totally relentless for about two years, and I did start to wonder if I was a bit of an idiot. I barely saw my girlfriend or my family - and I missed my brother's wedding! But I've always admired those directors who were a bit too ambitious with their first film, and who tried to do something high concept with a low budget. When that works, it's the most exciting thing of all.
Which directors did you have in mind?
I'm thinking Spielberg with Duel, Besson's Last Battle, and things like Mad Max and the first Terminator movie. Those really chunky, early genre films that you know nothing about, which make you go, "Fuck! What's this?" Obviously, I'm not saying my film is as good as those, not by a billion miles, but those were the things in my head. I think it's so much better to do something grand in a resourceful way than something grand with all the money in the world.
