Thanks for the Memories

There have been many women in Dean Winchester's life, but Lisa Braeden is the only one he has ever settled down with. In the latest issue of The Official Supernatural Magazine, we talk to actress Cindy Sampson about Lisa and Dean's relationship, fan reactions, playing a demon, and how she felt about Dean's tragic decision to erase himself from Lisa's memories for her own good. Here is an extract from the article...

After Lisa Braeden's first appearance in The Kids Are Alright, it seemed like the door had been left open for Dean to revisit that relationship. And after Lisa appeared in one of Dean's dreams in Dream A Little Dream Of Me, actress Cindy Sampson says that in the back of her mind she always thought her character would come back and tie up that loose end someday, somehow. "That being said, I was actually quite shocked when season six came around [and] Dean was going to be living with me and Ben," Sampson says. "I thought, 'Wow, that's intense.' I was a bit apprehensive because I thought, 'Oh, that really changes the dynamic of the show.'" Sampson's happy with the way the season played out though, and while there aren't necessarily any loose ends, she's once again hopeful that the writers will find a reason to bring her back in the future...

The Official Supernatural Magazine: Given how some fans felt about Lisa, were you nervous about going to your first Supernatural convention, Asylum 6?

I was really nervous, but it turned out to be the greatest weekend ever. I think in my whole life, it was the first time I realized I had fans. I think I was more excited at Asylum than the fans were themselves! I had a great reception, and I signed tons of autographs. And the fact that there were a lot of girls there who were excited that I was there really gave me some confidence. The funny thing about the convention was no one had seen my last episode yet, so I was thinking, "Oh, they're going to love me when they see I become a demon, because that's so cool."

With that on your mind, were you afraid you might accidentally slip up and say something "spoilery"?

I was really afraid before the convention, but it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. There was so much else to talk about. But I really wanted to tell! I was so excited when I found out [Lisa would be possessed] because I'd wanted to be a demon on this show since it began. I just really wanted to be evil, so at the con I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs, "I get to be a demon!" But I think it was a good surprise. Let It Bleed was a kick-ass episode.

Let's jump back to the beginning of season six. In Exile on Main Street, what did you think of the scene where you were burning on the ceiling?

First of all, I thought it was neat being a part of that small group of women [with Samantha Smith as Mary, and Adrianne Palicki as Jessica] that have been burned on the ceiling in Supernatural, so I felt special. But it's just a really cool trick how they do it, how they set it all up. I thought it was really awesome.
